Why Our Subtopic Should Be Recycling
Posted by amandanhs11 on March 9, 2009
I think our subtopic should be Recycling. There are so many branches you can take off of recycling. I brainstormed just a few and came up with:
- What can be recycled?
- Recycling in communities.
- Recycling in homes.
- Recycling in schools.
- Renewable vs. Recyclable.
Of course there are many other issues that could be addressed in our documentary, these are just the ones I came up with. I think that these issues would make such a good documentary because they are within our the reach of our classroom. Also, just by us doing this, we can make a huge difference, and hopefully influence other people, communities, schools, families, and everyone else to do the same thing.
This documentary could be set up and broken down by these 5 categories. Maybe calling the whole thing Recycling Old Habits, or something like that, just something that popped into my head. I think it would be important for the audience to see that there is a problem and that it can be easily fixed. The segments could be the 5 subtopics I guess? Also, there are so many people we could interview. Even at North alone we have the #1 Environthon team so it would not be hard to find someone who knows what they are talking about.
This documentary is so important because this issue is so problematic and PREVENTABLE!! I think it is extremely important to show people how easy it is to fix the issues that are going on with recycling and how big of a difference they alone could make. Just think if everyone in our class recycled at school and at home that would make such a difference. It would be even greater however if we could show this documentary and to have it impact everyone else. If everyone at North recycled, not only would it make a huge difference, it would make other communities and schools see how easy and helpful it is and hopefully create a domino effect. The intended audience would be anyone and everyone.

Amanda, I feel you make a very good point about recycling. If we, as a school make a large change such as recycling everyday, then the world would change, even if it were only slightly. I hope that recycling becomes a top category, because it really has a nice amount of potential for the class.

I like the title you thought of”recycling old habits” that’s cute! I agree with what you want the documentary to be, and I think you have a lot of good ideas.
P.S I like your outfit today :]

Thank you Bradley and I definitely hope that recycling becomes a top category as well. I think that unlike some of the other topics people have this is something we can make a change with. I think it will be important for you, Julia, and me, to join together and help convince our class and help them see the importance of this.

I think this is a great idea for the documentary. I like how you stated how simple it is to recycle, and how this small thing can impact the environment in a positive way.

Amanda I agree with you that we should go with recycling, but I would like to go broader than just schools and communities. Personally I would like to go in the direction of laws and recycling. What do you think?

Julia – Hahaha, Julia, I think that there a lot of people that wanna do something about recycling! Surprisingly! I think we need to use the ideas we have to help convince the class!
Amer – I think that stating how simple this is, yet how big of an impact it can make, is an important for everyone to see.
Franni – The problem I have with going in a more political direction like you are like the laws and recycling is that I don’t think we could make as big of an impact. Also recycling in schools is right here in front of us, it would be very easy for us to interview people and to make the documentary. Also I think that as much as the laws and recycling is important, I think it is necessary for us to start with the basics like why people don’t recycle, how to make recycling easier, and such.

I agree that this is an important topic to do. But, this is one of those topics that need to start small and the grow large. But, if we can accomplish this then we can change the world.

Ben – I definitely agree with you. I understand what you mean that this needs to start small and grow large, though I’m confused with how you are stating it here I guess, I guess I am just a little confused.

I don’t like this topic because it won’t help out the environment as much as some of the other topics, like deforestation, overpopulation, and species endangerment. If you could persuade people who like these other topics, that would great.
By the way, you look fiiiiine today.

Let’s limit the comments to academic discourse, OK? You don’t need to approve messages that don’t pertain to the topics. We need to reign in your buddy, huh?
